HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS JOIN THE WAITLIST

PURPOSE

In order to support underrepresented minority (URM) high school students in Washington, HCCP incorporates programs aimed to provide health care related career exposure and group mentoring. HCCP High School programs are under development in close collaboration with educational sector partners.

  • Cohort history: Spring and Summer 2021.
  • Focused on high school seniors and recent graduates (current college freshmen)
  • Based on the Virtual Rounds model, students are exposed to a variety of college-level medical cases facilitated by healthcare professionals.
  • Cohorts are designed to provide peer support and group mentorship to pre-health students entering college.
  • Cohort history: Summer 2022
  • Three sessions/week during Upward Bound summer program in collaboration with Upward Bound Evergreen College and Upward Bound Tacoma
  • Introduction to healthcare careers with a focus on behavioral health, pediatrics, orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine and public health
  • Students are assessed on in-class participation, homework completion, and final group presentations
